i feel like i start most blog posts with "i couldn't be more excited...", but i guess, if anything, that's actually a really wonderful way to want to start every post. it's nice to always be involved in things that make me excited, and i suppose it probably makes for better reading than if i were to start each entry with something like "today was very typically dull and normal" or something.
this morning was the first real meeting on the idea i spoke a bit about in my presentation during ignite philly, or what we're currently calling the 'free society of makers'. this city never amazes me - we had some really amazing people from all sorts of creative communities around philadelphia with a really great range of skills, talent and experiences there, and the whole thing was nothing if not extremely positive. it's suddenly becoming pretty clear that this idea can become very real here, which is, of course, exciting. we discussed some possibilities for working with some existing developers, institutions and organizations. we also talked about how putting people who want to make a small creative business together in a space, things typically get taken to the next level, everyone learns lots and the outcome is inevitably really amazing.
if you're interested in being in the loop on this project - the creation of a collaborative space for people to come make things, please email me at handmakerphilly [at] gmail.com and i'll add you into the google group.
